I am clearly level negative 100 because I can’t even get the multimeter to work. Battery is connected, I touch the black pin to metal part of car and poke red pin at various wires in the connectors. Voltage always reads 0. What am I doing wrong?

you Must not be touching the wire or pin with the lead. May need a needle to probe the connector pin. Then touch the needle with the meter lead.
