First off, you’ll need to have the physical master key. Usually, this is the key with the black plastic and not the one with grey plastic. if you need a new one, you should probably get one from a toyota dealer.
The sequence:
With all doors closed and the key out of the ignition, lock and unlock the doors and then open the driver side door.
Within 40 seconds, complete steps 1-8:
1. Insert the key into ignition and remove it from ignition switch two times.
2. Close, then open the driver’s door two times.
3. Insert the key into and remove it from the ignition switch one time.
4. Close, then open the driver’s door twice.
5. Insert the key into the ignition and don’t remove it.
6. Close driver’s door.
7. Turn the key position to on and off as below:
- i. 1 time for ADD mode. (add remotes)
- ii. 2 times for REWRITE mode. (clear all and then add remotes)
- iv. 5 times for CLEAR ALL. (clear all remotes)
8. Remove the key from the ignition.
9. The tail and marker lights will flash and the buzzer will chirp 1 time for ADD mode, twice for REWRITE, and 5 times for CLEAR ALL.
10. The doors will lock and unlock 1 time for ADD mode, twice for REWRITE, and 5 times for CLEAR ALL.
11. If you selected “CLEAR ALL”, open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. Otherwise, Press and release both lock and unlock buttons on the key fob at the same time for 1 second.
12. Press key fob’s lock button for one second or until the door locks cycle.
13. tail and marker lights flash will one time and buzzer will chirp one time. doors will lock and unlock once. if they cycle twice, it means it didn’t accept the key fob
14. Repeat step 11 to 13 for any additional remotes
15. open the driver’s door to exit programming mode.
there are additional modes in the mode selection, but 3 and 4 turns are modes that generally most won’t find useful. I certainly didn’t.
If you discover any discrepancies with these instructions, post below, and i will fix it in the instructions.

ah. thank you for posting that. it’s much more in detail. i figured somebody with more detailed information would chime in.
