Very, very ridiculous idea

Eeeasy, phats... some of us are just newbs (and also crazy, but they are independent attributes). Good to know the sum of the parts is about $1,500 though.

And I sure hope the engine and trans on these things doesn't usually crap out at 126K. If so, I've got some difficult soul-searching to do.

I was just gonna trash it because it's red. </sarc>

I prefer level negative 100 to newb thanks. 126k isn't great but isn't bad either. I didn't want red but we don't always get what we want.

Oh yeah did I mention the time .... to take parts off , ship parts out , do quotes for shipping . Then there the people that want to buy the two bolts that hold this on when they could waste their time and just go to the hardware store and buy them for a dollar .

I suppose you've never heard of a 1zz using oil ..... and transmission starting to whine and grind gears at or around the 100k mark .

There's nothing wrong with red .... or green .

But back to the car: if the top were in good shape, and not parting out, would the car be worth 4.5? The pre-facelift 1ZZ is problematic, but I didnt think the trans problems were very widespread. Isnt a "part bank" for personal use a little more valuable and worth paying a bit more? Certainly 4500 is too much, so whats a good price if one were buying it as a private part bank? The weather seals alone are many hundreds to replace, sadly.

My opinion the red car is worth maybe $2-2500 .... engine trans swap in the future . So you put 3-4 k into and it's probably worth $4500 .

All 1zz can be problematic , I have two 2004's one has 132k on it's already second engine and is ready for it's third , the other one has 123k and needs another engine .  The latter years are less likely but it still happens.

So in my view 1-2k for a parts car ...... and a 03 up are easier to part , side vents , rear vents , taillights , 16" wheels ... so their worth a little more money .

Spyder or Spyder project.

Those of us in the know, know that somethings are just going to be a money pit trying to get it back to a respectable condition. A sinking ship is a sinking ship.

There was a time when most rollers could be easily saved but seeing how poorly some cars have been treated Im not so sure anymore unless its some barn yard vintage find that can be stripped down and fully rebuilt making it many times its value after completion.

If for some tragic circumstances my Spyder gets totaled im taking that insurance money and buying the best example I can find and if it means adding a little more on top I would rather do it now then having to go though a bunch of rusted bolts and cleaning up someone else's filth.

Nothing wrong with a good spyder project just so you know going in you're probably going to end upside down . That's why for me it's a hobby not a money making scheme . Spyders tend to suck up a lot of my hobby budget .....

I agree but for me when there are other options  I would rather like to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I hate having unfinished projects that gets tossed aside.  If I start to lose interest because another hobby is starting to pull at me and now I will never get around to it until I cycle back. I had a friend that collected fox body mustangs because he wanted to make one perfect one so he went in deep blue printing an engine along with other mods.  Eventually he sold it all in desperation and bought a vintage Ferrari which ended up making him much happier.  The guy he sold the engine to let him listen to it start up over the phone.

Guys, relax!!! Phats is just trying to get you to forget about the car so he can buy it and ruin it... 😆 😆 😆

"Think as we think", say many Spyder owners, "or you are abominably wicked, you are a toad". After I'd thought about, I said "I will then, be a toad."
Thank you, Stephen Crane

How do you drive if you're replacing engines at 130k? This isn't a Ford or BMW.
