PS Fluid

I’m not going to ask about what fluid to use so I don’t want to open that can of worms. I’ve never changed mine in 15 years/ current 37K miles and it steers as normal/ expected (I’ve had other high mileage cars, such as my old Acura that had 120K miles on it when my brother got it as a gift and I had never swapped out the PS fluid). It’s not typically in any maintenance guide as to when it should be changed. All other fluids such as coolant, brake and clutch fluids have been done in the past couple of years.

Any reason for concern? The reservoir cap has never been opened (and I’m the original owner of the Spyder).

There's no can of worms. Check this out. https://www.spyderchat.com/threads/testing-the-oem-toyota-eh-ps-fluid.148522/

I had 140k or so when I changed mine. It was filthy, black, thick, and super low.

ER, I hear you about opening up the worm can, but I gotta ask.... the above Nissan fluid vs Ravenol E-PSF (RAVENOL J1B1022 Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering Fluid - E-PSF Full Synthetic (1 Liter) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CKM0NXE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.8EvDbQMZ6VE8).

I have the Ravenol and not yet used it. Is there ANY issue with using the Ravenol?

@ispy

Ravenol is on our shit list ..... cyclehead used some recommended Ravenol for his smt and ruined a bunch of seals and o rings so they're on the boycott list .

Go ahead and use the Ravenol...hopefully it'll be ok.

"Think as we think", say many Spyder owners, "or you are abominably wicked, you are a toad". After I'd thought about, I said "I will then, be a toad."

Ravenol is dead to me!

I make Amateur Armrests - see the Commercial Forum. I also have SMT repair seals available.

Oh crap, I went and did a SC search. I was completely unaware of all the research although I do recall the SMT issues from passive interest. First Halo, good work for the community, thank you. Second, thanks for the donations to fund that effort.

I think magnesium was the only outlier for Ravenol versus Toyota and Nissan. I believe magnesium is anti-frothing but don't quote me on that.  Hands in the worms now... Hate to toss the Ravenol but I really don't want to create issues I have to deal with later.

Yeah I wouldn't use Ravenol just because they're a bad company. But the results of the testing speak for themselves. Will Ravenol hurt the system? Probably not, a few people have run it before.

Glad to help the community! Thank you to everyone who donated to cover every penny of the fluid and testing.
