Need Exhaust With More Character!

I have the PPE MAGNAFLOW CATBACK EXHAUST, dual-outlet, on my stock 1ZZ.  It sounds OK but I really would like a louder more throaty exhaust. Does anyone have any ideas?

If anyone is familiar with S2000's I have the Mugen dual exhaust on my s2000 with over 400,000 miles on the exhaust and it sounds great! That is the kind of sound I want. Failing that I would be OK with louder and no drone. Anyone know what the Megan Racing Catback sounds like for the Spyder? Anyone know what the Apexi Catback sounds like for the Spyder?

Here is the Mugen exhaust on an AP1 S2000.

Thanks in advance!

Try the Team Moon. It has a LOT of character. Deep, raspy, uncivilized.

That is the one that I am most impressed with. Is that just a "find it where you can" item? My searches have not turned it up.

I contacted Charlie Shatzen (mazcare.com) and I am getting him to build the Team Moon exhaust for me.

I do have a question that I need help on. I am in central Texas, routinely travel through New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California. Would you suggest going with an aluminized system or with stainless?

Thanks!

If these vids are your car is this a single or duals?

I would be carful and do a little more research. It is possible that the PPE Magnaflow is the same as the one that is used for the Team Moon which basically a Camaro muffler.

The problem often comes from pairing the Magnaflow with the PPE header for the 1ZZ as they do not complement each other sound wise.

The PPE does better with the TTE Remus exhaust that is no longer sold.

Personally, I'd go stainless.

"Think as we think", say many Spyder owners, "or you are abominably wicked, you are a toad". After I'd thought about, I said "I will then, be a toad."
Thank you, Stephen Crane

Thanks for the reminder that there is more to this than the catback! My header is factory, precats gutted. I will research more!

It's my car, and it's dual tip yes. Glad you found the dude! And I don't know the difference between the SS and aluminum mufflers in terms of sound, construction, price, etc. The Magnaflow can used has super thin metal, like a tin can, so it is a bit fragile... over the course of decades.

Dev the PPE muffler used is completely different. Sounds entirely different too.

Sorry about that I misread what you wrote . I assumed you had a PPE header.

A teammoon with a gutted header and stock downpipe sounds phenomenal.  Plenty of character like an old school carburetor.

Do you happen to know which one PPE uses.

I do not. I just know its sound is very very different as I had two friends with PPE exhausts. To be fair, both were full exhausts with 4-1 header and midpipe but the sound is so wildly different that it can't be the same can. It's very high pitched and... I'm sorry, it's very K20-ish.

Thanks for reminding me to think more about the exhaust SYSTEM and not just one component!

I am sorry as well that it is, as you so aptly put it, "k20 ish". That is what I am trying to fix!

The Team Moon on a stock header and midpipe is absolutely delightful. I adore it every time I drive the car. Never tried it with other exhaust components, but the 4-2-1 eBay header didn't really change the tone of my exhaust much so I don't think that would hurt it.
