August 2022:
My “waiting list” has become an embarrassment, it’s over a year at this point. I’m making parts but I’m slow. Every piece I make is my best effort!
If you want a center console armrest, I will try to make it upon request - no waiting!
Thanks to all of you for your patience, and your interest in my homemade armrest things!!
===============
Amateur Armrest things:
Center Console armrests *link* $65 for long style
Center Console armrests $35 for short style
Door armrest covers *link* $65
Grab bar covers *link* $50
Hump covers *link* $35
Gearshift boots *link* $35
Door Card Inserts *link* $35
Parking brake lever covers *link* $30
Ragtop "ear" strap $35
Prices shown are for parts made using standard automotive-grade vinyl.
"Premium Material" is available for an extra charge.
Color choices:
I have vinyl material and thread in practically every spyder color except green maybe.
You get to pick your own material type, material color and stitching color.
No extra charge for picking your own colors!
Vinyl Materials:
I have perforated vinyl in black, white, red and maybe brown. The perforated materials nicely repeat the appearance of the steering wheel and brake lever handle. They "look like they belong" in the car.
I have smooth vinyl (not perforated) in lots of colors! Black, brown, white, yellow, blue, red and probably more. If you want something really bizarre I'll show you where to order from my vinyl supplier. Vinyl materials are not expensive. All the vinyl I use is good automotive grade stuff, with proper UV inhibitors for good durability in sunlight.
Premium materials:
Leather (from a cow) - brown or black only
Ultraleather (exotic vinyl) - black only
Brisa (Ultrafabrics product) - black only
Ultrasuede (Alcantara equivalent) - black only
Background:
I started making armrests in 2014...mostly because I had an industrial sewing machine. At this point I've probably made hundreds of upholstered parts (I've lost count). I have a limited repertoire of four designs, all parts for MR2 Spyders (links below). I make everything with my own two hands. With this many parts under my belt, I'm getting pretty adept at making nice looking parts, but I'm not a professional upholsterer by any means - thus the "amateur" name. Everyone has been very happy with their parts (low priced, custom parts that are comfortable!). When you buy this stuff, you help fund my Spyder habit, paying for tires and shiny parts. Note: I have also made gearshift boots, speedometer wraps and odd custom parts. I even made my own trapeze harness for my one-design sailboat from nylon webbing. If there's something you're dying to have made up, let me know. I won't tackle seat upholstery, but new small parts are always fun to try.
How to order:
If you want any amateur armrest things (links below), send me an email (cyclehead21 at gmail) and I'll add you to the waiting queue. It's free to get added to the list!
I have a queue because folks are asking for things faster than I can build them. When I get to your name, I'll make you anything you like. Thanks to everyone for being patient - it's just me in the sweatshop.
Payment:
Shipping charges are extra. Usually $8-$10 in continental USA (Or $40 overseas). I'll send you a PM when I start making your parts.
No payment required until I have your parts finished and ready to ship. Shipping is usually about 3 days in continental USA.
Please plan to send PayPal for payment!
Premium Material details:
Leather - I have a small amount of surplus business aircraft leather that I'm using up. I'm restocking from commercial leather suppliers in USA.
Ultra fabrics - I think these materials get their name from the price - all the ultra fabrics cost around $100/yard! So I charge a little extra for parts made with this material. I'm particularly excited about the "Brisa" material. It is a breathable vinyl and you can really tell the difference in summer. It is noticeably not sticky against your skin on a hot day. It has the appearance of fine leather from the outside, with a light leather grain texture. If I had my preference, I'd use it exclusively to make all my smooth parts, but I hate bumping my prices. So I'm keeping the automotive grade vinyl as "standard" material, and adding the Brisa as an added-cost option. If the extra money is okay with you, I suggest requesting your smooth black armrest things made with Brisa material.
I know for certain that the ultra leather and ultra suede don't get stiff in cold weather - unlike leather from a cow. I suspect the Brisa material will also stay soft and pliable at sub-zero temps but I haven't verified. I need somebody to report back after a cold winter's drive.
Note: Alcantara is no longer available to the consumer public (according to my supplier in Miami). I have shifted to Ultrasuede material. The two fabrics are indistinguishably different, unless you lay them side by side. Ultra suede has a very slightly heavier nap, and is very slightly "blacker". But it is more supple which makes it easier for me fabricating parts. Regardless, that's what's available now. It is supposed to be fantastic stuff, wears forever, UV resistant, no pilling, etc... and well it should be since the stuff costs like GOLD.

Thick or Thin:
One forum member had me make a "double thick" armrest.
There are two pictures of it below, at the bottom.
It looks a little fat, but the extra height brings it closer to the same altitude as the door armrests.
Just specify "double thickness"!
I actually like these so much, I made up one for each of my spyders. If you’re okay with the appearance you will definitely be happy with the 2X thickness.
Requests:
If you'd like an armrest, please reply to this thread and post the mix of options that you'd like - or send me a PM.
I'll make up requests and PM you when they're finished.
I'll send you payment information.
I don't take any payments until I'm ready to ship.
Shipping:
I've been shipping the short ones via USPS first class, and it's been very quick. Some guys in California got theirs two days after shipping from GA. Not bad! The long armrests take a little longer, but they seem to arrive in about four days.
Details:
If you're a really short driver these add-on armrests won't do you any good. For everyone else - a center armrest is a "must have" addition. They provide a comfortable spot for your right elbow, much nicer than the hard plastic console. I'm making these in two versions, long and short. The short ones don't obstruct the cup holder and they hide the crack in your plastic console by the handbrake quite nicely. The long ones are...longer, and they kind of tidy up the appearance of the console by hiding the cupholder and the shallow junk tray.
Short armrests:
These need to be "permanently" mounted to the console with sticky tape or velcro. I finish the bottom surface of the armrest with velcro, and I'll send you the sticky-back velcro to attach them to your console. You'll need to clean off any armorall-type stuff before you stick the velcro strips down. "409" Household cleaner seems to work well.
Long armrests:
I'm making the long armrests with a foam stub on the bottom surface that fits into the cupholder. (see the pictures below) This holds the armrest in place while you're using it - without screw holes or tape. I'm installing velcro fuzz on the front and back of the long armrests. I'll send you a piece of velcro hooks that you can use or omit - your choice. Some people like to have the armrest more securely installed. If you want to mount the long armrest permanently on a hinge or something creative, I can leave the bottom unfinished (bare wood). Let me know if you want the cupholder mount omitted - otherwise I'm making all the long ones with cupholder mounts. **update**. Another option - I can make the center armrest thick or thin. One forum member requested a thicker armrest, positioned a little further forward towards the parking brake handle. It is pretty nice, raising the center armrest closer to even with the door armrests. Sample picture below.
Features!
Construction:
I'm making all these armrests using automotive vinyl with UV inhibitors. All of them have double-row top stitching (two parallel lines) available in different thread colors. The thread is nice heavy stuff that stands out for a little tactile effect. I keep tinkering with the foam padding, but they all have a mix of foam densities inside. I use some very stiff foam on the bottom to make sure your elbow will never touch the wooden bottom plate. The top layers are lighter foam to give it a nice appearance and softer touch.
Thread:
I have brown, black, yellow, red, "silver", blue, gunmetal gray (nice subtle color!) thread that make nice accents if that's your taste.
Disclaimer: I am not a professional upholsterer but these have become a fun project and I get to feel like I'm doing something nice for the Spyder community. The armrests are nice looking, and they're inexpensive.

Details:
The door armrests are really nice. Once you have them installed, you won’t be happy driving a spyder without them. I’m using two layers of foam, the top layer is soft stuff that feels great when you’re resting your whole arm. The lower layer is a thin piece of more dense foam that will help provide some cushion when you have your pointy elbow parked in one spot for a few hours. Be as creative as you like with fabrics and thread colors. The perforated top and smooth sided armrests really look nice with contrasting thread colors.
Installation:
Here’s a video
showing how to pop the plastic armrests out and back on. Usually the covered armrests are tighter, so you have to whack them with the palm of your hand to get them to snap in place. More tips: Leather covers are the thickest material so they're the hardest to install. Vinyl is easier, and ultra leather is the thinnest (and easiest) to fit. Put the armrest onto the door panel and get the bottom clips engaged first. Whack straight downwards to engage those clips. Next, pinch the armrest a little to make sure the side clips are engaged into their slots in the door panel. Then whack the armrest sideways (towards the door panel). One one armrest I had to hit it with the palms of both hands simultaneously. I think it was a leather covered armrest. Please let me know if you absolutely can't get one to snap in properly. So far everyone has been successful though - and that's quite a few armrests!

Note: With the door armrests the upholstery covering is permanent. The foam is glued into place and the vinyl is stapled through the plastic. If you ever want to return to the plain plastic armrest, you would just replace them with new parts. Also, the backsides are ugly. Please don’t be discouraged by the appearance of the insides of the armrests. I don’t put any effort into making the insides pretty.
Here's a time lapse showing how I cover the door armrests...

Door "card" inserts
Door panel fabric can be replaced pretty easily. The fabric panel that surrounds the interior door handle above the armrest looks like a removable part, but it's not. The only thing removable is the fabric. To replace the door insert you just have to peel it off and glue on another piece of foam and fabric (plus take off the interior door handle, plus tuck in the edges with some rubber trim stuff) etc).
I have a pattern for the foam and material. I will trim the four pieces to the correct profile, but installation is all up to you.
If you order any of my armrest pieces, the door card insert material will match your new armrests perfectly.
I can stitch almost any pattern you like into the door card fabric. A diamond pattern looks nice if that's your taste. I've done a "TRD" pattern with separate colored pieces of fabric. Or if there's some embroidered logo or pattern you want, we can coordinate to make that happen.
$30 including shipping for all four pieces (two pieces of 1/4 inch thick foam, two pieces of vinyl. Leather or "premium materials" are $20 extra.)
This was my sample before I made up a brilliant white/red “TRD” stripe door panel. Not sure why I didn’t keep a picture of the finished parts!!

Hump Covers
This little piece is purely decorative. It sits in front of the gearshift lever, on the floor beneath the ash tray and covers the hump in the floor.
It's fun to customize this little area that normally just collects crumbs, with a smooth piece of leather or vinyl. Particularly if you have it made to match your armrests. 🙂

Gearshift Boots
If you want a custom gearshift boot, made with your own mix of fabric and thread color, then I'm your man! I'm happy to make a gearshift boot from the same material as your armrests, so everything matches.
Installation typically requires removal of the plastic center console. Remove both seats (four bolts). Then you can access the four screws that hold the console in place. Unscrew the gearshift knob. Lift up the console and unclip the two connectors for the windows.
You need to salvage the metal ring from the base of your old gearshift boot (or bend up another one from stiff wire or coat hangar). Also re-use the plastic ring at the top of your old gearshift boot.

Custom Stuff!
If you have a whacky idea for some kind of custom-stitched-leather kind of thing, I'm usually game to try something new. I can handle almost any leather or vinyl, plus I can sew up nylon webbing and straps. I made my own trapeze harness for my one-design sailboat. Price is tough to estimate, especially because developing something new can really gobble up the hours. I'm sure we can work something out that will make everyone happy.

Not seeing any pictures. Potentially interested in a short armrest. Do you have a pic of what it looks like installed?

BTW the first thing that people comment on when they get in my car is your leather work and after that its the tachometer.
