1zz Motor Partout

I have a 2001 1zz motor (everything except belt driven items). Unknown defects. I swapped the motor out for an SC member in my garage and the motor was left with me.

I'll pull the harness, clean, make any necessary repairs and re-wrap it. What is worthwhile to remove from this motor to recover?

What's the mileage like? Things that might be worthwhile to sell if low mileage are the belt tensioner, chain tensioner, maybe pulleys if they're clean (crank pulley may be valuable someday as the rubber starts to degrade on in-use ones), etc. Valve cover someone might buy as a spare to paint without taking their car off the road. Coils are worth a little. IAC maybe.

If it were me --- and a few years ago it was me --- I would send an oil sample off to Blackstone (?) labs and see what you can find out about the history of the engine. You very well might be surprised as to the engine's condition and wear.

Depending upon results, you might be able to sell the engine and/or block to another Spyder owner whose car has been killed by the catalytic converters.

Speaking of which, I would be interested in the exhaust header if you end up parting it out. Header is to be gutted and fitted into The Frog, so i wouldnt care if the cats are trash. Better that way, really, but no preference.

I have the header and the cats are good.   This header is from my 03 pulled at something like 70k.  I also have all the brackets. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that there were added brackets on the post-facelift models.

PM me.

at least with a 1zz you could hone the block before having to sleeve it...

If parting it out I'd be interested in the VVT intake gear, assuming it was properly functioning (no rattle on cold start).

The car was towed to my NJ house from Florida. I dropped the motor without inspecting or hearing it run.  I can disassemble, inspect, photograph, etc. throughout the disassembly process. In the end Gentleman's honor applies to both sides of any sale.

That said, I am stuck rebuilding a fiberglass deck, tray ceiling and a water damaged garage at a family members house when I'm not carting teenage daughters around and working full time. So unless it's pressing it's merely on the list.

It's not pressing at all. Car runs but I get the cold start clatter, and I think power lacks sometimes. No engine codes, no metal in oil or anything of major concern. I have my own dead 1ZZ about 60 miles away I could rob the gear from and try out. If it becomes an immediate concern I'll just drop the $100 it takes to get a known good one.
