How about some black face. Die Antwoord is popular in South Africa.
Quick! Someone be offended!
Quality shock value in that vid.

I was taken back when I first seen the video years ago. Apparently in South Africa no one cares.
I like the group because they are novel and their videos pop artistically, which is something you don't find modern music.
Here is one of my favorites.
Die Antwoord like a train wreck... I just can't look away no matter how gruesome or bizarre.
Here's another one from NuMark

I went there to find the song, which I havent heard for two decades, couldnt even remember if it was any good. Then I instantly fell in love with these little dudes.
I'd love to find one of these guys at a yard sale somewhere. Right, I know.... but just let me have my dream, OK, which would be to get him a tiny, totally-functioning vacuum cleaner and let him RULE all other purpose-built vacu-bots by overwhelming them with sheer Cool Factor, LOL.
The song is OK, has some nice passages; not their best work, certainly not their worst. Half of the time, the next song will be No Man's Land, which I personally consider to be the best Tangerine Dream song of all. Strongly recommend listening to that one if it comes up, even though it doesn't have smile-inducing robots in the video.
(Could somebody kindly share the recipe for how to embed a video, please? These un-click-baity text links are so 2009, sorry)

The constant ringing prevents songs from getting stuck in my head
Discovered Alex Terrible yesterday... Amazing harsh vocal control. He has a wide range (although he doesn't use his full range a lot). This Die Antwoord cover gave me a good laugh.
Unfortunately the band he plays with currently sounds pretty generic... I feel like he's carrying the whole group, his talent is well beyond the rest of his band mates. The lyrics are also pretty standard, full of angst and hate... Hopefully he will ascend to better in his future, with a real songwriter and skilled musicians that will make something more complex. Currently I enjoy him covering music of all types more than anything else. Aqua, Billie Eilish, Rammstein, 21 Pilots, etc...
Also been listening to LeSpecial lately. Good change of pace... They incorporate a little bit of everything into their music.
Also feel a heavy Les Claypool influence.... Which I'm a big fan of.
That Alex Terrible video is hilarious. Both of them.
I also like the original version. Its hypnotic.
After watching the cover video I immediately looked up the original just to see what it looked like... Both have good production and shock value. Alex held the form but definitely made it his own. There are lots of ridiculous covers on his personal YouTube channel. I also dig the masks. Between the masks and his voice.... I really want to see him sing for Gwar someday. I think that would be an excellent fit.
WARNING: NSFW (theatrical violence and gore, possibly nudity)
If anyone else here enjoys these antics, you MUST see them live. Unfortunately the original lead singer passed a few years ago, but they carry on still. They tell a story every time they set foot on stage... And make quite a mess. If you go see them live, don't wear anything you like... And always know where your towel is.
One more Alex Terrible. Watching the covers from oldest to newest, it is apparent his vocal range is improving quickly. Even some clean vocals in this one:
And since it came up in the vinyl thread, some Sikth:
Original lineup:
Back, with one new singer:
I like the Alex Terrible stuff but its getting to be a one trick pony. Funny none the less.
Now Im going to take you all back to my favorite band of all time. Its at a time when being a real musician was what it was about. This three piece ensemble just exemplifies that looking cool had nothing to with it, it called for it and therefore it is. A double neck guitar is just awesome but two is beyond unreal. All three are masters of their craft where each instrument can be separated and heard, complex but yet musical.
By your description, I knew it was Rush before the slow-loading vid link appeared. Xanadu, good example.
Opinions vary as to whether they *looked* cool, but we thought they did at the time. Yet I still can't shake the mutual embarrassment of "the nut-huggers". Oh, Alex, did somebody force you to wear those?
