Sort of on-topic... Did anyone else know that WinAmp is back?! They just released a new version and it still whips the Llama's ass for playing music files that you have locally if anyone still does that.

I may have to install it solely to hear that line again. What a time we live in... I'm looking forward to application nostalgia.

Thats a name from the past. The current stuff is Android based music players accompanying the high end digital audio players that are also Android. They can use wifi or blue tooth to play from NAS or any purposed server. It also transmits that into high bandwidth bluetooth to another device. It can also play from any of the music subscription services like Tidal or Amazon HD.
I just upgraded my DAP a few weeks ago and now can use almost all of the manufactures players like Fiio, HiBy and Shanling.
I highly recommend the HiBy music app. My new player is just fantastic.
They released the 50th anniversary edition of Cant buy a Thrill Steely Dan album in 24 bit audio this week. It went though an extensive remastering process. I had a listen and its very dimensional. I hope they will make a 24 bit version of Aja.
I was in high school when that album first released
played it over and over

I was like two but I remember hearing it around five when it was on the radio. The melody was captivating and dark.
It's so weird listening to Steely Dan in the present day and not sounding like old timey music like rag time. Even the recording quality and arrangements at the time of capture is better than a lot of current music.
I do love me some Steely Dan, now!
How about some Deacon Blues. When I found out the meaning of this song it blew my mind on just how amazing this band is. It's about a lame insufferable persons fantasy of being a Jazz Saxophonist. Steely Dan is making fun of the protagonist. Very 4D in the way the lyrics can make their listeners feel stupid with a sardonic meaning that is not hidden but most do not get because they identify with the protagonist.

and here I thought it was just a cool song
thanks for the update
I got the 24 bit remastered version of Electric Light Orchestra albums. For all those that are older than me I appreciate incredible timeless works of your generation. I remember having their greatest hits collection a long time ago in the early 90s as it was recommended to me by an older friend that said if you like Queen you will like ELO. People hype this band but I never paid much attention until now listening to it on a quality audio medium. It just blew my mind how well it was arranged and recorded.
Dev try some Emerson, Lake and Palmer... and their precursor King Crimson, and then some Todd Rudgren, for more like Steely Dan , ELO and Queen. There was a short period of time when such music was appreciated back after the British Invasion, and before metal began.I saw all of those in concert. ELP in all versions other concerts, a five piece band a more elaborate total of around 20, and a full orchestra with choir. One od my favorite groups of all time.
Blown, it is like lift, only bigger, better, longer, stronger, harder... and that’s just the car. The first Rotrex supercharged 2zz Spyder.
Thanks Grumpy. I tried to like ELP but it wasn't doing it for me. I will try again as some of the best music requires a second listen. Your other suggestion on Todd Rudgren is gold. I heard some of these songs but never knew who it was and now I will.
Right now I am enjoying Chicago Transit Authority. This album was released before I was born. I thought I knew the band by having the greatest hits double CD but I don't. This is an amazing band with music that has so much feel in it. Also I never knew the guy who quit playing bass in the 80s (Peter Cetera) is an incredible bassist.
This is from a joint Russian and Ukrainian Chicago cover band.
I saw them live several times in the 70's. Back then you could see the Stones and practically anyone for $20 a ticket. All day stadium concerts with top flight headliners for $50. That was 8 -12 bands, 5 or 6 top bands in a 12-18 hour long show. The day long concerts only went on for a couple of years in the mid 70's. Chaicago was one of the first to bring in a brass section to add to their sound. Others also added violins and choirs as backup. This was several groups between the British Invasion and when metal were the popular rock sounds. Its popularity only lasted a few years...my teen age years. There were a lot of concerts that were affordable at the time. It was a great period to grow up listening to the music and seeing it live. Most popular bands had nearly 150 concerts every year. They didn't have much of a stage show, but they played the hell out of the music...no auto tune.
Many of my friends didn't like my saying the Beatles were mostly a boy band. I like their music more now but they were not as revolutionary as many thought they were, the Stones and others were, but that was and still is just my opinion. They were excellent musicians but their songs were/are average at best...remember this is my opinion, I know it is not a popular one. I never have paid for any music of theirs, or saw them in concert, though I had numerous opportunities to do so. George Harrison was the best of them as a solo artist. Again my opinion only. You can probably tell from this paragraph the I have had plenty of people disagree with me on that opinion. It hasn't changed my mind.
The 60's didn't have that many concerts till after Woodstock. The bands made most of their money from concerts in the 70's.

Very interesting as I also considered the Beatles a pop boy band. I know they had more interesting experimental stuff in the later years and they are good musicians but when I was growing up if you were into the Beatles or Elvis you would get your ass kicked for listening to lame old peoples music.
It's funny how people romance about a bands fame at the time but that reality is a distortion of how it really was. There is a clear distinction between classic rock and that old timey sound. There are some bands that have transitioned from old timey to timeless like the Who but there are those artists that have a period type of sound and there is nothing wrong with that. You can often tell as the recording sounds anemic. When those recording engineers and producers were hitting their stride in the late 60s and into the 70s they created music that is better recorded than it is today. New music has almost no stereo separation and presentation to keep the listener engaged. Now that I have close to master tape quality with high resolution audio it is a real treat.
I have always noticed that the lamest people spit out names of bands to seem cool because of a newer track from and older artist but have no idea what makes them special like the band Santana.
I am glad you recognize the excellence of Todd Rudgren. for most he is an acquired taste. He was not heavily played on radio back in the days he recorded more than wrote and mainly produced. Back then there were no videos and very little"show" in concerts or live TV shows. The music talent mattered along with the work of the recorders. No computers ruining"smoothing, auto tuning," the musicians and singers really preformed. Vinyl has pretty well shown it is really better for music from those whose hearing let them hear everything.
After I heard Quadrophenia on a decent quad setup I really thought that was how recordings was going to go.The effects were so different but it never really caught on. I saw the concert of this Album in 73-74 after high School and then again in the 90's. They had technical problems in the 70's with this but got better equipment in the 90's and could pull it off much better. I really liked the quad album when listened to on a quad setup. You distinctively head the quad effects in the background so much better.
