Now that the MR2 Spyder has past the 20 year mark or closing in,
It would be interesting to see how many miles have been put on our Spyders.
Mine had a few miles over 70k when I bought it in 2014
I just rolled past 87,500 today
I have north of 155k. These cars can last a long time if properly looked after but unfortunately there are a lot of junker Spyders that lived in outside in miserable conditions. I think they are at the point of no return unless you spend a small fortune in restoration.
My 2003 had 13,363 (IIRC) on it when I bought it in 2009. I think there are about 54k on it now. I do enjoy driving it, but obviously, it is now a garage queen that gets taken out for rides only once in a while and occasionally shows at local car shows. When my grandson was about 5 years old and we were driving the Spyder to a car show, he asked if he could have the Spyder when I die. I told him yes, but that I wasn't in any hurry to relinquish any time soon. He turns 12 this September and still enjoys heading out to car shows with me. 😀
My 2001 is closing in on 135k miles, owned for almost 5 years now and picked up at 105k with an oil burning 1zz. Took me 7 months initially but I eventually got it 2zz swapped and back on the road. It's no show car.... The silver paint had some weird splotchiness to it when I got it that has continued to grow with sun exposure, and clear coat is starting to flake above the windshield and just in front of the rear deck lid. No garages unless under surgery, but does get covered parking at home these days. This one's been the learning experience, so I don't mind it being rough around the edges despite the amount of cash I've sunk into it at this point. It's still the most fun I've ever had in a street car. Maybe MR2 #2 will be prettier.
I don’t drive mine as much either these days
never the less
it is still is a joy to drive
My '01 has 180+k...I've put ~40k on it.
"Think as we think", say many Spyder owners, "or you are abominably wicked, you are a toad". After I'd thought about, I said "I will then, be a toad."
Thank you, Stephen Crane
August 2003; 145k. Seemingly low mileage 2ZZ installed @ 126k. Full restoration in 2000. Driven like her parents went out to dinner and kissed on the cheek good night.
Ive got about 83k my 2001. Refreshed the engine at 60k. The top is starting to show some love and I've internally patched it in two spots, need to do 2 more. Underside has a little bit of rust in a couple spots, probably deal with that late summer or next year. Also I need to fix a dent or replace my drivers rear rocker.
All in all, the car is in good condition, ive just been letting the little things that aren't mechanical maintenance stack a bit because I've been busy. Still a blast to drive. Planning on owning this guy forever.
I have about 78k on my 2001. Bought it with 47k November 4, 2004. It's been across the country twice, and parked for nearly 12 years. Engine 6 runs great. For now.
With some luck lol if not, then it's on to 7
I got mine 8 years ago (almost to the day) with 114k. It's now at over 155k.
