Real Users vs. SPAM

 Good to hear.  Since this board was created I have been enjoying it more than anyone could know.  

  We may not have many members but what I do  like is  quality over quantity which makes the experience less polluted.   These last few months away from SC has really brightened up my mood  and made me less jaded.

Actually I want him to join just so you can let him have it. I would also like a piece of that action and I think I can amend the rules so Don would be the exception. 

So, the plugin I installed askes a prompt question.  But that's only for creating a wordpress user.  apparently, wpforo will create a new forum member even if it doesn't create a wordpress user.  I need to somehow have this plugin work with the wpforo registration form.  Or maybe have wpforo use a wordpress registration form.  I think once the challenge question is active, we should see a large reduction of spam registrations.

What happened to Spyderchat.  In the last few days our membership has gone up quiet a bit with real users this time. 

Is someone actively recruiting or is that place getting lonely with missing legacy  members that are migrating here now. 

Either way its good to see we can rebuild what we once had with no advertisements and pesky out of touch admins run on some corporate model.  

I have no idea.  I haven't been on that site in a long time (aside from this morning when I was looking to see what I wrote in the past about something).  I didn't even log in though.

I'm glad more people are coming and contributing here.  This place is growing quite well.  Once I can figure out how to get the plugin with the challenge question to work on the forum user registration form, we should be much more confident in our membership that it's real people.

So there are security questions already in place through wpforo, i believe. Similar to the previous forum software, the issue lies where the bots learn the answers and can still get in so some sort of revolving question and answer should be put in place. I'll shot you a PM about where the Questions are.

The plugin has the ability to have rotating random questions.  I'll PM you more stuff once I am aware of it all.  I'll see if I can fix the plugin and then give the code to the author so that future versions will also work and we will continue to get updates.

I fixed the challenge question problem.  Turns out there was a logic bug in the plugin code.  I fixed that bug and notified the author.  hopefully, the new versions will include my fix.  The good news is that we will now have the challenge question in place.  I'll also try to think up a few other questions that we can cycle through in order to make it even a bit more effective in stopping bots.  Question ideas are welcome.

There was an update for the registration plugin released yesterday.  Luckily, my fix was included.  The author of that plugin is definitely active and responsive.
