Also, re-reading my post that triggered the other political poster to erase their posts and leave might have been a bit more harsh than necessary.  A more "political" approach would have been to soften the language a bit and explain that there's a proper place for that garbage.  But, I just wrote without a PC filter.  Now that we have something in the official rules area, I'll just reference that when some sort of political rant is posted somewhere it doesn't belong.

And, I have seen the same thing that PL is seeing with the new registrations.  A lot look like bots of some sort and most with .ru email addressees.  I'm not sure of the best way to combat this type of registration.  Maybe add some sort of MR2 Spyder specific question that forces someone to answer with real info that is easily known by any enthusiast or even casual observer.  I'll look and see what our options are.  Then I might look through the member lists block the ones that are suspicious (or at least get a count of them).

We did that on Spyderweb and it worked great. I believe the question was ; what does the MR in MR2 stand for.

The few that did not know made an effort to find out by doing a quick google search. They made the extra effort because it sparked their curiosity and did not frustrate them from making the effort.

Those that don't belong wouldn't go thought the trouble.

True.  we can have a couple too.  like "How many doors does the car of this site have?" or "Who manufactures the MR2 Spyder?"  or "Is the engine in front of the driver or behind them?".

Basically something that would easily stop a bot.  I also need to see if the forum software already has this ability or if we need to find an add-on or make one.

We actually had the who makes the MR2 initially and the bots figured it out. We believed at the time that some are done manually by a human and not all are bots.

The midship runabout answer  was the one that ultimately worked.

Mid engine, REAR WHEEL DRIVE, dammit!

I'm already stirring up ****.

However, I was alive when MK1 was released. I fell in love with it then.

Even if it wasnt the official designation, it was widely disseminated.

My point is, that question should have two "correct" answers, even if there is technically only one. I am really not trying to stir the pot, other than in jest, i am sure this one has gone around the block 42,000 times. And yes, i know what is stamped into my frunk. THIS generation of the car uses the new designation, which I will not give away.

I would hate for someone who only barely knows about the car to get kicked for going with MidEngine.RWD.2seater from something they heard in the 80s. Just sayin.

Curb weight might be a good challenge. Easy to find, but not too easy. Stock HP too. Or the model number: mk1 was AW10/AW11, ask for the mk3 number.

Or ask if it is better than a Miata, lol. I will stop now.

Its easily searchable for the right answer and the best thing about it is, it keeps the hacks and stupid people out.  What I mean by hacks are those that pretend to know and fail. There is one such Spyder owner, Mitch Dore  who has taken down his youtube account because like all hacks they get into trouble and when faced with trouble they threaten people and use racial epithets.  Eventually he restarted up his youtube channel and disabled the comments.

Making it a little harder to search for the truth is what makes a real enthusiast pass the most basic of tests.

I think having multiple correct answers is key.  Or at least some common mispellings or pluralizations.  That sort of thing.  It's a fine line between secure and annoying.  I use 2fa with a lot of the sites that I work with on a daily basis.  It's secure, but a huge PITA sometimes.  Also, they have you change your PW every 90 days.  ... where was I going with this?

Oh yeah, I'll check and see if we have access to a setting for a question now before we get too many more of these trojan horse accounts.

I couldn't find a spot to add a question to the registration form.  Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough, but I am pretty sure I looked everywhere.

I did purchase an add-on that will let us embed links to youtube and image sites and all that good stuff.  I'll keep looking for solutions to the other items.

Seems every time you fix the date, it goes back to the way it was in about 2 days. It's been "backwards" (by my yankee standards) for a while again. Doesn't matter at all frankly.

I like the date format. As a software nerd, the specific-to-general is pleasing. As an American, it confuses me just like it does the rest of us.

I'd love to switch to metric too, but old habits are incredibly hard to break. 57 Celsius... Quick! Is that hot? Heck if I know. Give me 90 seconds and i will tell you, but only because I took that time to convert it to the Stupid System that I can relate to.

But the date only takes five seconds to convert. Even so, it's tough when it is something like 05/12. Is that May or December? How about "12may2019"?

What's odd is that it really was fixed because I was overriding it using the method the forum suggested with a child theme type thing.  Oh well, hopefully, they (developers of the forum software) fix this pretty obvious bug in the next release.

Is it possible to delete threads as the thread owner? I could only edit post, but not delete the thread.

I don’t think that is possible on most forums. It would also delete other people’s responses to that thread which wouldn’t be fair without their consent as no one owns the thread but you own your posts which are protected as long as it follows the rules that are agreed upon and it will just go invisible and you will be requested to make the changes if they need to conform to the rules. If you would like to edit your post you are free to do so or if you made a thread by mistake or doubled it can be done by request to have a  moderator or admin handle it.

That makes sense, Dev. Didn't think of it that way.

Im happy you understand the reason.  The most important thing  is our posts are protected unlike Spyderchat where there were instances of having certain members posts that were  violated and abused by admins and moderators. What I like about this place where none of the staff is interested in moderation for the sake of it and everyone has equal say.
