I’ve been working on trying to make the 2ar-fe a great swap for the MR2 Spyder. At this point I’ve got the setup putting out 205rwhp@6100rpm and 190lb*ft@4100RPM.
This power is achieved with an unopened engine, just with a 4-2-1 header, my MAF pipe and a custom tune that revs to 7200rpm.
More power will certainly be possible as people play with this engine. Also, a 4-2-1 header is optimized for a wide torque band, not peak horsepower. It’s also got somewhat short primaries and secondaries just to make it fit in the engine bay.
Also, with this engine swap you have to swap the transmission at the same time and I have selected the EB60 as the transmission of choice. This gives you a nice 6 speed transmission at the same time as the bigger motor making 100hp over stock.
All the parts I sell for this are available here: https://frankensteinmotorworks.squarespace.com/mr2-spyder-shop
These parts include All mechanical parts you’ll need to do the swap except for a dip stick tube which is easy to fabricate yourself and a battery holder to relocate the battery to the crossmember. Phats on this forum does make a battery holder which works well with this swap. The other part missing will be a b-pipe to connect the header to the tail section of your choice.
A full plug and play electrical kit will also be available very soon. The paper documentation already exists for this: https://FrankensteinMotorworks.com/MKIII/2ARSwap/ECU/2AR%20Wiring%20Instructions%20For%20MR2%20Spyder%20Integration.pdf and there 2nd video in the install series also covers all the electrical.
The Video series is work in progress but currently two parts exist and the others will follow in a matter of weeks.
Part 1) Drivetrain preparation (axles and trans modifications as well as general drivetrain prep steps)
Part 2) Electrical work
Part 3) Chassis Prep and engine hanging
Part 4) Plumbing
Part 5) Interior work
Once that video series is done, it should be easy enough to do this swap that it would be a good first swap for people.
If anyone has any questions about this swap please reach out to me: Marc@frankensteinmotorworks.com
Chassis prep and engine hanging video is now up (3rd video):
Plumbing video is now up (4th video):
Those spring clap pliers come from Amazon , I don't know how I did so long without a pair . They're like $14 bucks ...

Yeah, those pliers are way better than doing it the old fashioned way. Personally i got the full kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z9RSU9W the remote pliers can actually be really handy sometimes also.
Good to see this here! Marc, vids are coming along nicely - great work!
Thanks, i appreciate it!.
I also just posted the 4th video this morning. This one covers mostly plumbing (intake, exhaust, fuel, vacuum) and some battery bits:
