Yes! Everything works now if a bit quirky. I need two presses to unlock but I can live with that. Thanks for following up. I really appreciate your guidance.

see if there is a setting on the keyless unit to send a double pulse with just one button push... sometimes there is a jumper you can change.

There's a jumper for puematic or electric and that's it.

for those of us with MY 2000 cars, keyless entry was not standard.  many members including MikeV and rpaltman tried purchasing the OEM keyless units from later years and retrofitting them in, but the wiring is different.  as a result, aside from a full blown alarm, you can install an aftermarket keyless entry system like the Viper 211HV.

Here are the wire diagrams:

Hello, I am a proud owner of a (new to me) 2000 MR2. This site and the information within it has been extremely helpful. I have already completed the pre-cat gut and I am now moving on to installing an alarm/keyless entry. This post has been my guide. While extremely helpful, I cannot locate the horn trigger. Where exactly is the harness pictured? Is it by the pedals? closer to the driver's kick panel and up? or closer to the radio? Can I tap the horn wire from the steering wheel area? Any additional direction and explanation of where to find the horn trigger/harness pictured would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I make Amateur Armrests - see the Commercial Forum. I also have SMT repair seals available.

@cyclehead Thank you for the help! I was able to find the horn wire... as described in the chart at the beginning of the thread. It is located just behind the steering wheel in a black module next to the yellow clip (see pics). The wire is White/Red stripe.

Also, in order to get the key fob to unlock doors with single pulse, run a wire from the passenger kick panel back to alarm and connect the (blue) unlock alarm wire to the (blue wire/yellow stripe) wire in the passenger side kick panel. It is the orange clip pictured in the passenger panel.
